Georgia Aquarium Announced yesterday that it has euthanized Norton, the remaining male whale shark from the aquarium's original two. Norton had been force fed exclusively since the being exposed to a chemical treatment for leaches in the large tank.
Norton is the second whale shark to fall victim to this event. Ralph, another male shark similarly exposed died 5 months ago. The four remaining sharks currently on display have not been exposed to this chemical and are reportedly in good health.
The shark was placed on 24 hour watch last Wednesday after it began swimming erratically. Blood tests confirmed it's deteriorated health.
"After every option had been exhausted to improve Norton's health, the team made the decision to humanely euthanise him," The Aquarium said.
