Baby Manta Dies at Churaumi Aquarium

The Juvenile Manta Ray born last week at the Curaumi Aquarium has died.  The cause of death is believed to have been aggression from the animals father.  The adult male ray constantly chased the juvenile and often slammed into it.  The pup's death is still under investigation.



Despite it's short life, the young ray provided a wealth of information that would have been impossible to attain from wild observations of the rays.  Hopefully a future breeding attempt is more successful.
