Goldfish are undoubtedly one of the most common pet fish. The array of colors and shapes of modern varieties only increases the demand for these animals. Unfortunately, few people know how to care for these occasionally delicate fish. Here are few tips for their care.
- Dip goldfish in a 3% salt dip before adding them to your display.
- Never add the water from the transport bag into your aquarium.
- Clean the aquarium regularly and invest in powerful filters. Goldfish possess a larger girth than other fish the same length and grow to a respectable size. They require powerful filtration to accommodate their bulk.
- Feed the goldfish sinking pellets and feed them sparingly.

Not keeping them in bowls is another good tip. For large goldfish, 30 gallons per goldfish with weekly 50% water changes will keep the nitrates at acceptable levels.
Also, feeding them fresh foods, like veggies (boiled for 1 minute) and frozen/thawed bloodworms and brine and such can help prevent floating problems. My goldfish also really like the dried seaweed, intended for salt water fish.
Great goldfish tips!
These are so simple but many people don't always know especially if your a newbie getting in the hobby.
Dipping your goldfish in a 3% salt solution is a great tip. People probably asking why, what it does it helps eliminate the parasites that may be on your goldfish. Every time you dip some parasites come off if there's any.
And not pouring the water from the bag in the aquarium is another good tip as parasites may be in the water that you don't want to introduce to your aquarium.
These are great tips that goldfish hobbyist should live by.
Great blog!
